Color Splash
1. My favorite image is the color splash one because the letters really jump out off the page.  It is cool that the background enhances the photo.  My favorite image within the letters is the picture of Patrick and me because it fits the frame well and he is a good friend of mine.
2. I like how the letters flow (wave) and how the letters are each individual and have their own meaning behind them.
3. I think I could have done a better job brightening some of my photos because a couple of them are hard to see.
4. A layer mask cuts out a certain part of a picture and allows you to edit a layer without editing the entire picture.

Webquest Blog Reflection

The Webquest project really encouraged me to learn more about different photography techniques especially pertaining to what things to look out for when taking the photo.  A lot of importance in a photo comes not only from the subject but also from the rest of the picture.  Important questions to ask when taking a picture are "Does the background enhance or detract from the subject?  Is the background too distracting? Does the background make sense with the subject?".  Through this Webquest I was able to explore the ways in which the rest of the picture really has an influence in the overall composition.  Also learning different ways of framing the subject was very interesting, especially the ones with leading lines and lead room.  I thought leading lines was really cool because it really directs your eyes to the subject and I liked lead room because it implies action or motion which really makes a photo more real.  I also enjoyed learning about the rule of odds because I have never heard of it before and it definitely helped to enhance the photos that I was taking, especially when the object is repeated it looks good to have an odd number of items because then the natural center will be one of the items and not just some random gap between two things.  This project overall was really cool because it highlighted some of the photography techniques that we have already learned in this class and also informed me of new techniques that can further enhance my photography.

Still Life

Still Life #1
Still Life #2
Still Life #3

1. I liked having the continuity of the shoe in all of the images and using various other props to help enhance or detract from the shoe.  The background color is really simple so having the flowers on the simple background made them stand out more.
2. In the first two images I used the soft lighting and in the third image I used the direct light.  I liked the sift light better because there wasn't as much shadow in the image.
3. I mostly adjusted the hue, the saturation, and the contrast of the images.  In the first two images I turned the saturation up and in the third one I unsaturated it.  The first image also has more of a warm hue whereas the other two have more cool colors.
4.  I think that my composition could be improved by having more of a focal point in the image because my props are pretty scattered throughout the images.

Surreal Photoshop

1. My photo is about a baby polar bear who is on a grass patch in the quad at Cal High.
2. It was hard to find a grass patch that wasn't blurry and also fit the angle of the picture I took.
3.  I used layer masks and blending to make my image, I also had to warp the grass to align it a little more with the ground.
4. I think I could make the image more coherent and have all of the images come from the same perspective.

TED Talk

1. What is the most important aspect when creating his work?
His most important aspect when creating his work is capturing an idea instead of capturing a moment.  When combining the photos it is important to make sure that they have the same lighting, same perspective, and the viewer of the image should not be able to tell where the two photos were blended together.
2. What do you find interesting about his work?
I find it interesting how all of his photos have a different idea and they are all portrayed in different ways.  He tries to make all of his photos tell a different sort of story.

HDR photography

-HDR photography: (high dynamic range photos) capturing greater range of tonal detail.
Achieve successful results by: -taking at least three photos at different exposures of the same shot and merging them together. -using more traditional methods, such as many real-world scenes containing very bright, direct sunlight to extreme shade

-This image impressed me the most because of the contrast between the various leaves and the sky. The different colors pop out.

Abstract

original - texture with lines
original - shape with pattern
original - balance
 1. The flower is my favorite shot because the macro lens shows all the small details of it.
2. The flower shot shows the best use of the elements of art. The stems show a line path. The stems and petals also provide the shape.
3. The stems and petals are radially symmetric. The fact that they are both white gives unity. The stems are in the foreground and the petals in the background.
4. The filter on the shot of the building is my favorite because the lines emphasize the asymmetrical balance.

Grand Landscapes

1

3
1. In the third photo the rule of thirds is used. The sky is in the top third of the photo. The football field was emphasized due to this.
2. The photo is asymmetrically balanced. You can see the football field and bleachers are balanced but the photo was not taken from the center.
3. The photo was taken around 2pm. This was not the best time to take photos because it was very bright out which caused some shadows in photos I wanted to take.
4. The football field is in the foreground while the hills and sky are in the background.
Edge Burn
channel mixer
desaturation

gradient

Lab color
1. The channel mixer produced the best result. It has the most contrast.
2. The desaturation and channel mixer were the best methods to produce a large value range.

Landscape Blog Assignment

Tree Bark
Flower
Leaf
1. The macro lens was a little hard to use because you had to be really close to the subject for it to focus, and since it was windy outside the leaf and the flower were moving a lot so it was hard to get a clear picture of them
2. My favorite image is the one of the tree because the bark looks really detailed with the zoomed in lens
3. The shot that shows the best rule of thirds is the one of the yellow flower.
4. My favorite picture has good balance and emphasis.  I think there is also a lot of variety in the color of the tree bark.

Umbrella Cinemagraph

1. Our concept was to have the umbrella move while keeping my body still.  It worked, but it was hard because in order for my head not to be duplicated we had to move my head along with the image.
2.  I just posed for the video while Jennie filmed it.
3. I would've had more movement in the background so it was more obvious that only one thing was moving and the rest of the image was supposed to be still.
4. Photoshopping the umbrella was very difficult, I tried two other videos that we took and they were not working at all.  The tutorial itself was a little confusing too.

Photographing Water

Station 2
Station 1
Station 4
Station 3
Station 1 Questions:
1. It was fairly easy to get a good shot because you could see the water well and with the burst you could take a lot of different pictures.
2. I liked that the water was easy to see with the flash on.

Station 2 Questions:
1. No it was very hard to get a good shot because the water was very dark and it was hard to see.
2. I did not like how dark the pictures turned out and how long it took to get a good picture of water without flash.

Station 3 Questions:
1. No it was really hard to get a good shot because our phones would not focus on the water droplets.
2. I liked that there was a variety of pictures, but it was hard to take pictures that were good.

Station 4 Questions:
1. It was very easy to get a good shot because there was a lot of time before the food coloring mixed into the water.
2. We used all 4 food dye colors and it turned out really cool because the top and the bottom were both black and the middle had all the colors mixed.

Our group was always on task when taking pictures and we worked well as a team.

Artificial Motion

1. No the image does not look real because only the tires look like they are moving, the rest of the car is very still.

6 Frame

1. I used my phone camera to take the pictures, the burst mode was easy because I only had to hold down the button to take the pictures and it took the burst for me.
2. The 6th frame is my favorite frame because Kolton has a good follow-through when throwing the lacrosse ball.
3. I like shooting action because you can see a progression of motion across shots.
